The Dolores Bengtson Aquatic Center will be closed to all programs for five days starting next Monday, Aug. 26, so that final work can be completed on the swimming pool complex's east side renovation project. Programs on the east side of the facility (lap swim and water exercise, etc.) will resume on Saturday, Aug. 31. Renovation on the west side of the facility is expected to be completed early next month. Final work on the east side marks the completion of the first major renovation since the facility was opened in the early 1970s. As part of the renovation, the existing 25-meter pool was re-designed into an "L" shape to include the diving pool. Two pools also were replastered and now feature full handicap access. The 25-meter pool was deepened for competitive use, and new plumbing, heating, electrical and filtration systems were installed in both pools.
