Pleasanton police are investigating the circumstances of an accident Sunday afternoon when a motorist struck and killed Diana Hersevoort, 58, of Dublin as she was bicyling with her husband on Foothill Road near Golden Eagle Way.
Both cyclists were hit by a car driven by an 18-year-old, whose name has not been released by police.
Mrs. Hersevoort was riding ahead of her husband single file, according to reports on the Pleasanton Weekly's online Town Square forum when the car struck the couple, hitting the husband first and then his wife.
Pleasanton police Lt. Brian Laurence, in a police report, said Hersevoort was thrown from her bicycle and pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Police said the accident occurred just after 1 p.m. and that the driver was heading north at the time of the crash. He stopped and cooperated with police.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
Police Sgt. Robert Leong said the 18-year-old was driving a 2004 silver Dodge Neon, and they are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to call Pleasanton police at 931-5100.
