Mayor Jennifer Hosterman Friday endorsed Councilwoman Cheryl Cook-Kallio for mayor.
In a letter to the Pleasanton Weekly, Hosterman said that while both Cook-Kallio and mayoral candidate and fellow Councilman Jerry Thorne "love their community and both have worked very hard on behalf of the people of Pleasanton," she plans to cast her vote for Cook-Kallio and urged other vote for her favored candidate.
The text of the letter follows:
"As we enter the final days before the 2012 election, I have reflected on the last six years that I have had the privilege of serving our community alongside fellow council members Cheryl Cook-Kallio and Jerry Thorne, both of whom seek the office of mayor.
"Both love their community and both have worked very hard on behalf of the people of Pleasanton. The majority of the votes over the years has resulted in 5-0 decisions. However, on those more rare occasions, I have been grateful to, for the most part, carry what I consider important decisions with the support of both Cheryl and Jerry.
"Jerry enjoys many years of service and a strong background in volunteerism in our community. Both have raised their children, here. On the dais, I find Cheryl to be the more thoughtful in her approach to the issues. Cheryl listens carefully to the public, asks clear and concise questions of staff, entertains meaningful discussion with her fellow council members, and renders her decision only after going through a full analysis of the issue. Both are outstanding candidates. Both have disagreed with me on a number of matters before the Council.
"Given my reasoning, I will cast my vote for Cheryl Cook-Kallio to serve us as the next mayor of Pleasanton. I hope you will, too."
