Be sure to watch presidential debate starting at 6 p.m. Pacific time tonight, and then come over to the Civic Center at 200 Old Bernal Ave. tomorrow night for the Pleasanton Weekly's free, live, community-wide debate for candidates in the Nov. 6 municipal election.
The Pleasanton candidates forum will offer candidates for mayor and City Council their last opportunity to publicly seek voter support before voters can start casting their ballots by mail next Monday.
On the City Council dais where three of the five candidates will be sitting after being sworn in to office Dec. 4 will be current Council members Cheryl Cook-Kallio and Jerry Thorne, who are seeking election to the mayor's post, and Karla Brown, Erlene DeMarcus and Jerry Pentin, who are seeking election to the City Council, where two seats need to be filled.
Mike Harris, a fourth council candidate, has dropped out of the race although his name is listed at the top of the council ballot, which is already printed and distributed and cannot be changed.
The forum, co-sponsored by the Pleasanton Weekly, the Bay East Board of Realtors and the Valley Real Estate Network, will be televised for later broadcast on Community Television's Channel 29 starting Oct. 8.
The Pleasanton Weekly also will re-broadcast the event for showing on its website at www.pleasantonweekly.com.
Doors to the Civic Center will open at 6 p.m. with the debate starting promptly at 6:30 p.m.
Those attending will be given question cards as they enter which they can use to write out their questions for individual or all candidates. The moderators of the forum, Gina Channell-Allen, publisher of the Pleasanton Weekly and its editor Jeb Bing, will then ask the candidates to answer those questions as well as others they will ask as well.
The 90-minute debate will give the public an opportunity to ask questions about where the candidates stand on vital issues facing the city as well as a chance for candidates to respond and tell voters why they should be elected.
Questions for individual or all of the candidates may also be sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
