Pleasanton City Council candidate Karla Brown will host a wine and cheese fundraiser from 4-6 p.m. today in the ground floor offices of Prudential California Realty, 4725 First St.
Karla Brown is a Pleasanton business woman who has been involved in local politics for the past five years, including an unsuccessful run for the council two years ago.
Brown said she is the only candidate advocating "Slow and Smart" growth policies for Pleasanton, citing that she was a leader for the Save Pleasanton's Hills initiative and is the only local candidate endorsed by the Sierra Club.
Two others also are seeking election to the City Council where two seats will be filled in the Nov. 6 municipal election. They are Planning Commission Chairman Jerry Pentin and transportation consultant Erlene DeMarcus.
"I am a fiscal conservative, vowing to work towards addressing the city's growing unfunded pension debt," Brown said. "I am committed to maintaining the city's financial health so that the appropriate funding will be available to support city services and provide for our dedicated city employees."
She added that she also is "an advocate of preserving Pleasanton's heritage buildings and neighborhoods, while encouraging downtown business owners to thrive by offering a variety of shopping options, wine tasting venues, both upscale and casual dining, acoustic music and more."
