The Pleasanton School Board will hold an hour-long study session starting at 5 p.m. tonight to look at the district's debt service.
Documentation shows the bond debt grew significantly from 2006, rising to more than $10 million in annual debt service in 2007 and will top out at about $15 million per year in 2013.
The board will also discuss whether to begin transitional kindergarten for the upcoming school year. That was originally mandated by the state, but the requirement may be delayed because of California's ongoing financial problems.
Regarding the state's budget, the board will discuss what to do about 2012 summer school, which was eliminated last week as the board voted to cut more than $5.3 million for the 2012-13 school year in anticipation of potential cuts to state school funding.
The board will also discuss -- and possibly take action on --- cuts to administrative staff or eliminate some services, as well as considering a resolution to cut certificated employees or eliminate some services.
Among the cuts approved last week were reductions to car allowances to management. For Superintendent Parvin Ahmadi and the district's three assistant superintendents, car allowances will drop from $600 a month to $400 per month in the upcoming school year.
No principals or other management will get any car allowances for the 2012-13 school year. Until the cut last week, directors and senior directors received $150 a month, principals received $125 per month, coordinators got $75 a month, vice principals received $75 a month and administrative assistants received $25 a month.
Even as the district made cuts to deal with the ongoing problem of state funding, it posted a notice to hire a replacement for Cindy Galbo, assistant superintendent of educational services, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
The salary for the job will range from $158,310 to $181,664 for a 217-day work year. A Master's degree is required, with an emphasis in educational leadership or organizational leadership.
The school board meets in the district's headquarters at 4665 Bernal Ave.
