McNerney hosting seminars today to assist with DTV switch

TVs still using antennas will need converter after midnight tonight for Friday's nationwide switch to digital broadcasting

The local office of Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton) will host briefings today in advance of tomorrow's nationwide switch from analog to digital television (DTV) service.

The free seminars will provide an opportunity for people to ask questions and receive information about the switch from representatives from the Federal Communications Commission.

Consumers who currently use an antenna to receive a signal on their TV set will need to set up a converter box to continue receiving service after the switch. Coupons are available to help consumers purchase converter boxes and the form to apply for this coupon will be available at McNerney's office briefings.

The briefings will be held from moon to from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the congressman's office at 5776 Stoneridge Mall Rd. Suite 175. For more information, call 737-0727.

With everything going on locally and accross the country...THIS is what he's going to focus on? PLEASE! Is anybody concerned about this? Anyone? Hello?

It is likely that someone, not McNerney himself, will provide these sessions in his office. I think its a nice service to his constituency. BTW, my elderly mother got the converter boxes for her TVs, but we discovered she needed more cables. I might end up going to hear about this myself since we couldn't get even one connected properly. (She doesn't want to pay for cable service yet like many older people, most of her daily information and entertainment is gleaned from the TV.) I bet McNerney is focused on other things and just arranged for the sessions....

Great leadership, unemployment out of control, two wars being fought, spending out of control, Iran and North Korea locked and loaded, Barack running amock, and McNerney wants to make sure everyone can continue to watch TV............what a genius.

"Barack running amock"???
Geeze, I had to put up with 8 years of Bush and you can't handle 5 months of Obama? You lost. Get over it. Grow up. Get on with your life.

Why the surprise? McNerney wants all of his constituents to be able to watch State-run government filtered Obama hype of mainstream media (NBC, CBS, CNN, ABC, MSNBC, etc.)

Hey McNerney, when are you going to host a 'real' town meeting? Not in those small locations like aisle 2 of a hardware store or a small coffee shop. It also would be helpful if these meetings are not 1-1 "whisper sessions" so we all can hear the questions and your responses.

By the way, your group phone calls are also overstaged as well. You're not fooling anyone with these phone sessions as only a couple of your "constituents" actually talk...and these people are most likely handpicked beforehand as are their questions.

Your democracy at work comrade McNerney.

Bush is gone and long gone. Barack ran on a platform of fixing all of the Bush problems and seems to be still running a campaign. The american people want a real leader not a guy who blames others and apologizes to the world.

It's your right to turn up the volume on your right wing AM radio station and bury your head in the sand for the next 4-8 years while tapping away on your keyboard. Enjoy!

I agree with the value of a real town meeting type venue. However, it benefits nobody when a few "constituents" start yelling and nobody can be heard, as happened at the last coffe shop meeting I attended.

Why the insults? Unable to express yourself intelligently without name calling or insults. No wonder everyone ignores you as will I from now on.

Was it you that said something along the lines that I have a complete misunderstanding of economic issues on a different blog? But then never pointed out where I was wrong? Maybe that was someone else.

Perhaps a back - door approach to garnering the Senior Vote at Tax Payer's expense?

This is surprising because I didn't know that people still watched television...its so 60's. I have 3 computers and I can choose who, what, where, why, and when.

Hey Republicans, McNerney owns you!!! Deal with it! Go move to Texas if you don't like him.
