There have been less fatal accidents in the Bay Area during this year's California Highway Patrol maximum enforcement period compared to 2007.
The CHP reported one fatal collision in the Bay Area between Wednesday at 6 p.m. through today at 6 a.m. There were two fatalities reported last year during the same reporting period over the Christmas holiday.
There have also been fewer arrests for drunken driving in the Bay Area. In 2007, 205 drunken drivers were arrested during this maximum reporting period. This year there have been 123.
The maximum enforcement period ends tonight.
