Foothill High School sophomore Chaitanya Gompa will be remembered by friends and family today at services in Walnut Creek.
Chaitanya died Tuesday after a battle with cancer.
His parents. Sarada and PremGanesh Gompa said in a note to students and faculty that their son "will always be with us; his spirit and deeds will be part of us no matter where we go and how we spend rest of our lives. The time spent by you, your staff, fellow classmates and friends meant so much to Chaitanya. Our son loved all of you very much and we will personally miss him terribly."
A viewing wwill be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Hull Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Ave. in Walnut Creek, with a funeral to follow.
Foothill Principal John Dwyer said counselors are available for anyone needing support.
This is the second death of a Foothill student in the past three weeks. Foothill sophomore Andrew Phillips died Oct. 19 after a battle with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer.
