A newlywed from Pleasanton won $1 million on the California State Lottery's "The Big Spin'' show that aired Saturday, lottery officials announced.
Kris Schoonmaker, a millwright, said he intends to use some of the money to build a medical facility in the province in the Philippines where his wife is from.
"We're going to build an infirmary or medical facility in my wife's hometown," Schoonmaker said in a prepared statement. "There are 15,000 homeless kids in her province. I'm sure this is 'God's grace.'"
About $1.23 million was won on the show, lncluding $40,000 that went to Serif Cakisic, a San Jose man who works for a cable company.
Cakisic moved to the U.S. from Bosnia about eight years ago and intends to spend the money to continue supporting his parents.
