Art Contest Finalists
(February 03, 2006) Pleasanton schools sweep Peralta District
Pleasanton schools are dominating the Reflections Art Contest as eight students move on to the state level. The eight were chosen to represent the Peralta District at the state level in the contest sponsored by the Parent Teacher Association. Students moving on to the state competition are: Jenna Crawford, Vintage Hills, literature; Bryan Park, Mohr, visual arts; Katie Lin, Vintage Hills, musical composition; Dharini Clare, Vintage Hills, literature; Jennifer Tao, Mohr, visual arts; Kristin Hong, Amador, photography; Lauren Johnson, Amador, literature; Max Loh, Amador, musical composition.
District-wide, 16 students' projects made the cut for the state-wide competition, meaning half the entries were created by students in Pleasanton. A total of 1,845 entries were submitted in the Peralta District this year. The Reflections contest is an art program sponsored by the national PTA for K-12 students. Students respond to a theme, which changes every year, and this year's theme was "I Wonder Why?" Students create entries in visual arts, photography, literature and musical composition.
The state winners will be announced at the California State PTA Convention May 11-13 in Anaheim, Calif. Winners are selected based on artistic skill and how well they interpret the theme.
