Alameda County Fair wins honors

The 2005 Alameda County Fair won 41 industry achievement awards, including 20 First Place honors, from the Western Fairs Association (WFA) earlier this year in San Diego. More than 400,000 people visited the 2005 Fair.

Livermore Lab deputy director retiring Livermore Lab deputy director retiring (February 03, 2006)

Dr. Wayne Shotts, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's deputy director for Operations, has will retire from the Laboratory, effective March 1. Shotts has led the Lab's operational programs since January 2005. His career spans more than 31 years of work in physics, defense and nuclear technologies, nonproliferation, arms control, international security and homeland security.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my tenure at Livermore," noted Shotts. "The Lab is a terrific place to work and I am proud of the technical and scientific accomplishments we've made on behalf of the nation."

Local merchant honored Local merchant honored (February 03, 2006)

LilyAnn's Lingerie has been honored for Humanitarian Service in connection with the store's aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina. It was one of only five U.S. businesses so-honored by Women's Wear daily and assorted Fortune 500 high tech companies. The local effort helped generate donations of eight tons of undergarments from the lingerie industry throughout the United States and Canada. Keynote speaker at the awards ceremony in New York City was Tom Brokaw.
