(February 03, 2006) Pleasanton Pony Baseball kicks off its season
Pleasanton Pony Baseball's 14U Travel Team Red Sox started its 2006 season by capturing the 2006 Nor Cal AAU 14U Division I Championship in Sunnyvale. In early pool play and literally playing as the “Mudville Nine” in rain and mud, the Red Sox went 2-1 to be seeded second going into the single elimination semi-finals.
The Red Sox pulled off a seven inning win with an RBI single by Matthew Chaidez to move into the championship against the Headfirst Gamers. Early against the Gamers the Red Sox fell behind, but rallied back to take the lead with a two-run homer by Andrew Wells.
During play, everyone contributed the Red Sox offense, but Anthony Mignano led the team, scoring eight runs. The Red Sox defense was led by pitcher Jordan Quinzon who faced 25, batters had 16 strike-outs and only two walks. This win qualifies the Pleasanton Red Sox for the AAU Nationals to be held later this year.
