CCOP Girls Basketball, 6th grade CCOP Girls Basketball, 6th grade (January 06, 2006)

CCOP #6012 played a fierce game against SM/SC (St. Michael's/St. Charles) #6609, and retained their undefeated record, by nearly shutting out their opponents. At half time, the score was 14-0.

Nicole Ponzini (high scorer),Lindsey Godwin, and Madison Mooney displayed remarkable shooting, while Rachel Orpina and Sidney Okumura performed inside passing to keep the offense open. Stifling defensive effort by Lauren MacDonnell, Elena Victor, Nicole Torquato and Nicole Ponzini. Game highlight: Keri Butler scored her first basket of the season, as a birthday gift for her mother! The final score was CCOP #6012--20, SM/SC # 6009--4.

On Dec. 18, the 6th grade girls continued their 5-0 winning streak by scoring 23 hoops against St. Isadore girls' 11 baskets. In a very exciting game. Nicole Ponzini was high scorer for the team,scoring 7 of the 23 points. Playing equally well on defense were Elena Victor, Rachel Orpina, and Danielle Browning (who scored her first basket of the season). "Watching the House Down Low" with strong defensive moves were Lindsey Godwin. Keri Butler, Madison Mooney, Rachel Orpina and Danielle Browning. 8th grade girls

The CCOP 8th Grade girl's basketball team played in the 20th annual Christ the King Christmas Invitational tournament in Pleasant Hill. The tournament topped off a full week of basketball, as the team played four games in six days with several players unavailable. CCOP finished fourth in the tournament with Britannia Bloom being named to the All-Tournament team.

CCOP opened up the first game against St. Bonaventure from Concord. Alana D'Onofrio led CCOP with 17 points followed by Chelsea Luther's eight points and Britannia Bloom's six points. Emily Pease battled under the board amongst a big, physical St. Bonaventure team defending well and rebounding. The final score was 45-34 over Christ the King.

In the semi final game CCOP met their rivals from the Tri-Valley League, St. Isidore from Danville. This match up is always well played and hard fought. This game was no exception especially since St. Isidore pounded its first round opponent 55-8. St. Isadore got off to a 14 to 2 lead to start the game. CCOP battled back but lost 36 to 29. Jessica Mickelson played tough defense and pulled down six rebounds. Jessica Infald had another good game at guard while Scarlett Dante led the team in steals.

CCOP lost in the third place game by the score of 29-25 to St. Francis of Sonoma. CCOP led most of the way but a short roster, fatigue and missed free throw opportunities doomed CCOP in the end losing in the waning minutes. Chelsea Luther hit a three-point basket to pull CCOP within two points with less than a minute to play.
