Seahawks Swim at SOCAL Seahawks Swim at SOCAL (January 06, 2006)

Ten Pleasanton Seahawks Senior swimmers qualified for the 2005 Southern California (SOCAL) Winter Invitational meet, December 15 -18. They all dug deep, swam hard, and competed with personal best times and new Sectional cuts in many of the events. Sixty-nine teams, totaling 542 swimmers from all over the Southwestern United States competed in this trials and finals meet in Commerce, California.

* Galen Sollom-Brotherton, 15, placed in the finals in all three of his events. He placed 19th in the 500 Free (4:49.33), 7th in the 1000 Free (9:50.23), and 3rd in the 1650 Free (16.16.73).

* Logan Rivenes, 17, placed 22nd in the 1650 Free and swam a personal best of 17:32.07.

* Matt Clement, 17, swam to 16th in the 1000 Free (9:59.53, new Sectional cut). He also made new Sectional cuts in the 500 Free (4:45.85) and 1650 Free, in which he also placed 9th (16:50.13)

* Billy Nelson, 15, placed 21st in the 1650 Free and swam a personal best time of 17.23.46

* Brandon Fischer, 16, swam an outstanding meet, placing 12th in the 100 Free (9:52.73), 11th in the 200 IM (2:00.00, Sectional cut), and 8th in the 400 IM (4:13.37, Sectional cut). Brandon also swam to 2nd place in the 100 Breast, inching his way within 2 seconds of a National cut. Finally, he capped off the weekend by capturing 1st place in both the trials and final championship heat of the 200 Breast with a personal best time of 2:06.56. C

* Caitlin Lavagnino glided through the water to swim a personal best and 17th place in the 100 Back (1:00.27, Sectional cut). She also placed 13th in the 200 Back (2:09.84).

* Neda Nguyen swam a personal best time in the 400 IM (4:42.91, Sectional cut), and additionally took 14th place in the finals of the 200 Breast (2:26.15, Sectional cut).

* Lisa Narum, 16, placed 4th in the 200 IM (2:07.59), 23rd in the 200 Free (1:55.45, Sectional cut), 7th in the 400 IM (4:32.31, Sectional cut), 17th in the 200 Breast (2:25.85), and 20th in the 100 Free (54.13). * Katie Swenson, 17, placed 12th in the 100 Breast (1:08.06, Sectional cut), as well as 8th in the 200 Breast (2:23.81, Sectional cut).

Jen Narum also had a great meet, placing 3rd in the 200 Free (1:51.39), 5th in the 400 IM (4:29.54), 6th in the 200 Back (2:05.61), and 2nd in the 1650 Free (16:57.83). -Susan B. Miller
