Vikings beat Jaguars in PJFL play Vikings beat Jaguars in PJFL play (October 14, 2005)

Tackle by Moore stops Jags bear goal line

by Jeb Bing

In Pleasanton Junior Football League play last weekend, the Vikings defeated the Jaguars 12-8 for their second victory of the season.

The Vikings defense strategy of "bend but not break" worked with the team allowing only one touchdown at the end of a series of drives by the Jags. Vikings safety Brandon Arace had an interception to end a Jags drive.

In the first half, the Vikings scored on their second possession when quarterback Trent Nelson hit Garrett Moore with a 15 yard touchdown pass. In the second half, Vikings tailback Cameron Ashtiani had a 30 yard touchdown run to put the Vikings on top 12-8. The game ended with a game-saving tackle by Vikings linebacker Garrett Moore as he stopped a Jags receiver three yards away from the goal line. Buccaneers 30, Steelers 27

The Buccaneers and Steelers battled on a hot Saturday afternoon with seven TDs scored in the first half. The Bucs Oscar Harris returned a kickoff 75 yards for a score and rushed for 203 yards to contribute to the hard fought win. QB Matt Banahan added another 119 yards of offense for the Bucs and the defense came up with big plays in the second half to give the Bucs the edge 30-27.

Bob Roth, Josh Parr, Arial Sciammas, Brock Rivero, Brandon Rivero, and Brandon Faulk kept pressure on the backfield and receivers to shut out the Steelers in the second half. Kean Stancil logged 233 rushing/return yards in the first half alone but was unable to return in the second half due to dehydration. Danny Petros, in his first game back from a pre-season injury, led the Steeler defense with 7 tackles and 2 assists. Andrew Bailey was the workhorse at fullback, piling up 79 yards on the ground. Dolphins 24-Titans 0

The Dolphins winning streak continued with a 26 to 0 victory over the Titans. The Dolphins saw an inspired Titan defense force a seesaw battle up and down the field in the first quarter. The Dolphins then mounted a 33 yard, 10 play drive with Dalton Turay scoring the touchdown from three yards out. The defense again held the Titans, going into half time with a 6-0 lead. The second half saw the Dolphins run away from the Titans. Two long drives of 40 and 70 yards each, respectively, saw Turay score touchdowns to mount an 18-0 score. After a successful PAT, the kickoff team came out to force a turnover. The kickoff forced a loose ball on the field, with Ryan Mende recovering it on the Titan 42 yard line, to give the offense one more possession. With a great block from Darrin Desilva, Turay went around the right side for a 32 yard touchdown for the final score of the day
Cowboys 20, Falcons 8

Despite another great defensive game from Jake Bussani, Codey Heidebrecht and Jack Sieverding, the Cowboys used a punishing ground game to hand the Falcons their first loss of the season 20-8 in Advanced Contact play.

Christian Kurth scored the lone touchdown for the Falcons, on a 34 yard pass from Chris Keck, and Bart Houston added the conversion. Stephen Hanna grabbed an interception, while Jake Isabel and Ty Martindale also turned in some nice runs for the Falcons
Cowboys 20-Falcons 8

Also in Advanced Contact, it was a nail-biter at the Sports Park as the Cowboys literally dragged the Falcons to a 20-8 Cowboy win. Key offensive players include Justin Marino, Zach Valentine, Matt Beadle, Kyle Svensson Demitrius Woodson and Ryan Toney. Key defensive players include Joey Corbett, Carson Ewanich, Brian Hill, Spencer Hollie, Heneli Kailahi and AJ Parr.

Rage U-14s win two league games Rage U-14s win two league games (October 14, 2005)

Defeat Fremont Flames, Livermore Crush

by Sue and Dan Skinner

The Pleasanton Rage U-14 D3 team, riding two three-goal outbursts by Alisa Smith, slated two league victories last weekend.

On Saturday they took on a spirited Fremont Flames Club and came away with a 5-0 win. The Rage started the scoring in the 17th minute with a missile off of Smith's left foot and into the upper left corner of the net. The Fremont defense stiffened and the half ended with the Rage leading 1-0. In the second half, the Rage came out firing, tallying 18 shots on the Fremont goal

In the 49th minute, Samantha Lysaght slipped a pass to Smith who found the back of the net for her second goal. The Rage scored again in the 55th minute when Lysaght took a Briana Edmundson cross and redirected it into the goal. Smith added her third goal and Scarlett Dante collected another, finishing the second half scoring and locking up the win. On Sunday the Rage traveled to Livermore to take on the Livermore Crush, their nemesis from the 2004 season. Having faced them three times last year, the Rage was unable to come out on top; however the new season brought a new result. Out-shooting their opponent 15 to 6, the Rage again rode a three-goal performance by Alisa Smith to defeat the Crush 3-0. The scoring began in the 18th minute when Smith delivered off a through ball from Erica Morrissey. In the 38th minute Smith once again capped the scoring sequence. Lisa Grau controlled the ball on the right side, slipping a pass into the right corner, which Edmundson crossed precisely onto Smith's feet. Smith then drove the ball past the Crush goalie for the score. Smith then secured her second "hat trick" of the weekend with a redirect off a Grau corner kick in the 66th minute.
