Cuddly creations Cuddly creations (September 23, 2005)

Residents of Ridge View Commons make blankets and sip wine while celebrating their recent accomplishment in completing 5,000 fleece blankets with Blankets for Kids, a nonprofit organization that distributes the blankets to local police departments and social service agencies for abused, neglected and at-risk children. It took the group of senior citizens two and half years to reach this milestone, said Jo Molz, executive director or Blankets for Kids. "The blankets are soft, cuddly and children love them," Molz said. "It is also great because here we have seniors helping children." The blankets made in the Tri-Valley go to four local police departments, Shepherd's Gate, Tri-Valley Haven and Calico, a nonprofit in San Leandro that provides services for sexually abused children. Extra blankets are sent to the My Stuff Bags Foundation, a group that provides duffel bags filled with belongings to abused and neglected children. Blankets for Kids is an all-volunteer organization and relies on donations to purchase fleece for the blankets. Contact Jo Molz at 846-6155 or blanketsforkids@sbcglobal.net to make a donation.
