Home burglarized, thousands in personal property lost

Nearly $3,700 worth of property was stolen from an apartment in the 6400 block of Stoneridge Mall Rd. sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, police said. The victim came home Aug. 29 after work to find her sliding glass door ajar, according to police. The victim said she had locked the door before leaving in the morning and police speculated that the suspect used an unknown pry tool to force open the door.

The victim found the following items missing: assorted meats and food from the freezer, two bottles of vodka, a nine piece knife set, a decorative dragon ship made of jade, two suitcases, a laundry basket, a Hewlett-Packard Computer, cordless mouse, assorted jewelry items, two cordless phones and $150 in change. The total cost of the missing items is $3,635, police said. The victim's home also sustained $100 in damages, according to police. There were no witnesses to the crime and the police have yet to name a suspect. Tools stolen from construction site

A local construction company reported $7,350 worth of tools were missing from a construction site in the 5800 block of Owens Dr., police said. The company's owner said he had secured the site before leaving Aug. 31 at 3:25 p.m., but when he returned Sept. 1 at 5 a.m. the locks to the equipment were open. The locks did not sustain any damage and it appears that the suspect had a key, police said. Due to the construction, the building has some walls missing and does not have a security camera or alarm system, meaning the suspect could have easily walked onto the site, the victim said. Police said they have no witnesses or suspects.
