Team wins 3 straight playoff games

The Foothill Little League Major Rangers advanced to the District 57 Tournament of Champions (TOC) this week with three straight playoff wins.

Team representative Claire Heppner said the Rangers, led by the pitching of Albert Lin and a strong defense led by Chris Oneill, Grant DeFazio, Michael Harvey and Randall Hahn allowed only three runs and committed only two errors in the three-game playoff series against the Braves and the Mets.

On the offensive side, Oneill was 7 for 11 with a home run; Lin was 7 for 10 with 5 RBI's and C. J. Woodward was 6 for 9 with a double and triple over the three-game stretch. Also contributing were Nate and Ty Bussani with outstanding defense and Ian Newbery, whose clutch single in the last game broke it open.

The scores were Game One vs. the Braves: 14-0; Game Two vs. the Mets: 12-1, and the final game, also against the Mets: 13-2.
Baseball camp opens July 6

Pony baseball will conduct its 11th annual summer camp for both boys and girls from 9 a.m. to noon for three consecutive days starting Wednesday, July 6.

The camp, taught by Foothill High School varsity baseball coach Brian Freitas and his staff, will teach young players from 7 to 14 years old about the fundamentals of offense, defense, pitching, bunting, catching and throwing. Everyone in the course will also receive individual instruction in playing all positions on the baseball field, including baserunning and more.

Proceeds from the $100 registration fees will benefit the Foothill baseball program.

Pleasanton Seahawks post top times on Peninsula

Many on the Pleasanton Seahawks' Senior and Pre-Senior teams posted best times last weekend at the Silicon Valley Aquatic Association Junior Plus meet.

Team representative Susan Miller said that Kimmy Court, 15, placed 2nd in the 800 Free (9:34.44), 3rd in the 1500 Free (18:26.08), and 4th in the 200 Back (2:34.78). Brandon Fischer, 16, swam to 1st place with a new Junior National time of 1:09.37 in the 100 Breast, and then 2nd place with a new Junior National time of 2:33.93 in the 200 Breast; and Joshua Meints, 13, swam to 3rd in the 400 IM with a new best time of 5:09.08.

Jen Narum, 16, captured three 1st place finishes: 400 IM (5:11.69), 200 Back (2:31.62), and 1500 Free (17:21.48). Her sister Lisa Narum, 15, took 4th in the 400 IM (5:20.55).

Also finishing in the top ranks were Billy Nelson, 14, who placed 3rd in the 800 Free, stopping the clock with a new best time of 9:14.98; Adam Pawlowski, 17, who took 1st place in the 800 Free (9:05.71), and 3rd in the 1500 Free (17:53.95); and Stephen Quinn, age 18, who placed 2nd in the 800 Free (9:11.66), and took 3rd in the 200 Free (2:04.94), and 400 Free (4:31.90).


Sign-ups on for summer lacrosse program

Registration is open for the Pleasanton Lacrosse Club summer program, with sections available for boys entering grades 3-12 and girls entering grades 3-8.

All games/practices are played at Hart Middle School, according to lacrosse representative Margaret Gordon. Full equipment is required for all players, and rental equipment is available for 3rd-4th grade boys at California Lacrosse Company, 601 Golden Gate Dr., Dublin, 828-9992.

The schedule for boys entering grades 3-8 calls for Tuesday evening clinic style practices, with Saturday morning pick-up style games. Game times are 9 a.m. for Pee Wees (grades 3 and 4), 10 a.m. for Pups (grades 5 and 6) and 11:30 a.m. for Juniors (grades 7 and 8). Registration fee is $50 through June 20 and $60 after that.

Gordon said the junior varsity-level high school program is available for boys entering their freshman to senior years. Pick-up style games are played on Thursday nights, with no scheduled practices. These games will have official referees. Registration fees are $55 through June 20 and $65 after that date.

For girls entering grades 3-8, lacrosse practices will take place Thursday evenings with Saturday morning pick-up style games. Game times are 9 a.m. for beginners (grades 3 and 4), 10 a.m. for intermediate (grades 5 and 6) and 11:30 a.m. for advanced (grades 7 and 8). Registration fee is $50 through June 20 and $60 after that date.
