Students giving teacher awards
(April 01, 2005) A ceremony will be held Thursday night for six high school teachers being honored by students from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were chosen for rendering "extraordinary service" and making "an exceptionally positive impact in their lives," said spokeswoman Jane Barlow.
The awards are being presented to Linda Newman and Peter Robbins of Amador Valley High School; Nina Rees and Ed Cloyd of Foothill High; and Veronica Alvarez and Sara Hollison of Dublin High.
"Usually these awards are presented by school administration, faculty or the students' parents. Rarely, it seems, are such awards offered by those whose lives are most directly affected by teachers and faculty - the students themselves," said Barlow. "We admire teachers who take extra time to personally care for each of their students and truly assist them in their education."
The public is invited to attend the Award Presentation Ceremony at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 7, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6100 Paseo Santa Cruz.
