(February 11, 2005) Thief takes snacks and leaves cash in car
A thief took items valued at $900 from a 1999 Chevy Tahoe in the 6900 block of Via Quito, in the early morning hours of Feb. 3.
The victim said she was last in the vehicle, which was parked in her driveway, at 2 a.m. The police report states she did not believe she had locked the car doors.
The victim said that at 8 a.m., she returned to her vehicle to find the doors slightly ajar. The victim said all the storage compartments had been ransacked. Items taken included a cell phone, car charger for the phone, portable DVD player, cosmetic bag, the keys to a 1996 Ford Explorer and various food items, according to the police report. The victim said she was shocked that they took the food items but left cash in one of the storage compartments.
The police report states the victim then checked her 1996 Ford Explorer, which was parked on the street in front of her house. She said someone had entered the vehicle and gone through its storage compartments, however, she did not notice anything missing.
The victim believes the Explorer was locked, and the suspect used the keys found in the Tahoe to access the Explorer, police said. There were no signs of forced entry on either vehicle.
