(December 31, 2004) Christine Amick Schlytter
Services were scheduled yesterday at Trinity Lutheran Church for Christine Amick Schlytter, a well-known Pleasanton business owner who also was active in school and nonprofit organizations. She died Christmas Day at her home on Corte Libre after an 18-month battle with brain cancer.
She owned and managed Association Management Co. on Serpentine Lane, a business that served homeowners associations. She prided herself on providing entry-level jobs and training for young women as well as older women who were returning to the workforce after raising their families. In recent months, as her illness progressed, she relinquished control of the business to her daughter Kimberly, who will now head the company.
"Chris was probably one of the most compassionate, caring and fun-loving individuals in our community," said her close friend and City Councilwoman Cindy McGovern. "She was involved in activities at Walnut Grove Elementary School, with parent groups, and at one time was on the board of the PPIE (Pleasanton Partnerships in Education) Foundation."
Another friend, Kay Huff, said Mrs. Schlytter was also part of the "race track girls," a group of women who organized a special Ladies Day at the Races during the County Fair and were often together at social and charity events.
Her son Sam Amick, a reporter for the Sacramento Bee, said the family moved to Pleasanton in 1979 and that his mother started the Association Management Co. 13 years ago. He thanked the "amazing large number of friends" who became a daily support group for his mother in her final months.
Besides her children Kimberly and Sam, she is survived by her husband Mike Schlytter, an American Airlines pilot; another daughter, Kelly Hilton; a brother, Bob Kegan, and a sister Kathy Jamieson, both of Sunnyvale; step-children Justin and Alana Schlytter; and two grandchildren.
Donations in honor of Christine Schlytter may be sent to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or to the National Brain Tumor Foundation, 22 Battery St., Suite 612, San Francisco, CA 94111.
