(December 31, 2004) Reindeer-nappers nabbed
Police caught two men and two juveniles red-handed with reindeer holiday decorations overnight Dec. 18.
Pleasanton residents David Gregory, 18, and Tyler O'Callaghan, also 18, were booked at Santa Rita Jail on charges of burglary, petty theft and obstructing an arrest. Also facing similar charges are two juveniles, who were booked at the Alameda County Juvenile Hall.
Officers Tom Hansen and Eric Fredgren spotted the four walking down a street in the middle of the night, two carrying the lawn decorations, near Division Street and Harvest Circle, police reported.
As the officers approached, two of the four unsuccessfully attempted to escape by running into a nearby creek, police said.
Police believe the four burglarized an Amador Valley High School building earlier that evening, taking property valued at more than $900, as well as stealing property from an unlocked car.
Although the police have received other reports of stolen holiday lawn decorations in recent weeks, they do not believe the suspects were involved in those thefts.
