'Streetwise' correction

Editor,

I would like to respond to the "Streetwise" comment that I am quoted as saying in your paper Nov. 5. I was misquoted. What I said (or meant to say) was that the Scott Peterson case has become a huge media circus and is being treated as something highly unusual by the press, when actually there are many more cases out there that never make it to the papers for some reason or another. I never said that it is common for men to abuse their wives when they are pregnant. I said that these kinds of cases are more common than it appears in the media.

For the record, I have been happily married to the same man for 26 years. We have three beautiful daughters, and I was never abused by my husband. Please be a little more careful when interpreting people's comments. Barbara HoefflerCorte Sierra Show support for troops

Editor,

Regardless about how you feel about the war personally, you will want our troops to come home safely. The best way to see that they do is to do what we can to help maintain their morale, energy and belief for our future. One of the ways we can do that of course is to write to them and send care packages.

Most of all, I believe that they need to see that we support them. I am advocating a show of faith in them and our support of them, by asking everyone to wear our ribbons that many of us wore after the Sept. 11 bombing of the twin towers in New York.

Let's take them out, dust them off, and wear them in support of our troops until they come home. Let everyone see, including the media, that we are here for them, that we do support them, and that we are praying for their safety and their strength. These young men and women are putting their lives on the line for all of us, even for those that admonish their valiant efforts. Our troops are fighting so that these people can go out and advocate their beliefs.

Our ribbons will be a show of support for our soldiers and for our Nation, so wear them proudly. If you have lost yours or never had one, just get a piece of the red, white and blue striped ribbon and pin it to your shirt, and think, "God bless you and come home safely."
