Ryan Gordon game set for Dec. 18

The second annual Ryan Gordon Memorial Alumni Soccer Game has been scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 18, at Amador Valley High School to raise funds for the Ryan Gordon Scholarship. Gordon, who died in a boating accident two years ago, was a star soccer player at Foothill High School. Last year's game between alumni and varsity soccer players at both high schools raised $9,700, which was used in awarding three college scholarships, said Gordon's father, Curt Gordon.

"Although the game is in my son's name, this year the contributions will go to the Foothill and Amador soccer programs," Gordon said.

More than 1,200 watched last year's games, which were played at Foothill. The Dec. 18 games will start at 4 p.m. for women's teams and at 6:30 p.m. for the men's teams. Those playing are asked to make a $20 donation to the scholarship fund, and can sign up at Allstar Sports, 3037-A Hopyard Road; telephone 846-7928. Garbage pickup on Thanksgiving

The Pleasanton Garbage Co. will pick up both garbage and greenwaste containers on Thanksgiving Day for customers whose normal pickup days are Thursdays. Since both Christmas and New Year's fall on Saturday when there is no regular garbage service, they will not affect weekly schedules. Toys for Tots campaign starts

Coldwell Banker of Pleasanton is again joining forces with the Marine Corps Reserve in its local Toys for Tots campaign. This season marks Coldwell Banker's 18th consecutive year as an official gift collection center. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the real estate firm's office at 5980 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 122, during normal business hours through Dec. 17. Members of the Marine Corps Reserve will pick up the toys and deliver them to charitable organizations and social welfare agencies in the area.

Over the past 57 years, Marines have distributed over 313 million toys to some 151 million needy children across the nation.
