Supporting our troops - with persimmons Supporting our troops - with persimmons (November 19, 2004)

Horatio and Sam Fitz-Simon hawked a wagon of persimmons from their tree at a recent fundraiser for Support All Military (SAM). Horatio is a preschooler and Sam is a sixth-grader at Pleasanton Middle School. The event was held by the Community of Character Coalition in front of the Museum On Main Street to kick off National Family Week, which is Nov. 21-27. More than 200 people attended, and SAM received over $600 as well as a vanload of donated items to be sent to troops in holiday packages along with two 15-foot banners signed by participants. Families also were given yellow ribbons to tie on trees downtown, and Family Activity books were passed out.
