Livermore Airport plans open house
(September 17, 2004) Pilots and small plane owners will show off a variety of specialized aircraft as the Livermore Municipal Airport holds its ninth annual Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25.
Formerly known as Airport Appreciation Day, the free community event will feature exhibits, entertainment and a display of Livermore-based aircraft. The airport is home to more than 600 aircraft, including general aviation, military-type Warbirds, antique and classic, experimental and home built and aerobatic type planes.
Local Chapter 633 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will be signing up youngsters from ages 8 to 17 for "Young Eagle" free airplane rides that will take place at a later date. Program coordinator John Davelaar said the rides "will provide them with an opportunity to experience flight, and learn about aviation from an EAA pilot."
Also exhibiting will be the Flying Electrons, the radio control aircraft club, Ahart Aviation, Flying Particles, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Cal-Star medical flight helicopter, Livermore Police Department and the Pleasanton-Livermore Fire Department.
Food also will be available at a nominal cost, Davelaar said.
