John Payne

Longtime Pleasanton resident John Payne died at his home surrounded by his family July 22. He was 71.

Born in Kentucky on Oct. 2, 1932, he attended General Motors Tech in Flint, Mich., later transferring to the University of Michigan where he graduated in 1956 with a bachelor's degree and in 1957 with a master's degree in engineering.

He began his career with Martin Co. in Baltimore and moved to California to work for Aerojet for nine years. In 1969, he and his family moved to Pleasanton, where he worked for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical until his retirement.

He enjoyed many hobbies and was well known among his family and friends for brewing beer. An avid reader, he also enjoyed working with computers and was a golfer.

His family and friends will miss him for many qualities including his humor and loyalty.

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Jean Payne; his children and their spouses, John and Donica, Karen and Matthew, Bob and Cathy, Vicky and Michael; five grandchildren; and one brother.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in John's name to a preferred charity or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1390 Market St., Suite 1200, San Francisco 94102. William L. Seuis

Pleasanton resident William L. Seuis died at Eden Medical Center on July 22 from traumatic internal injuries suffered from a freeway motorcycle accident.

He was a 15-year veteran of the Oakland Police Department and was in uniform at the time of the accident. Officer Seuis will be missed by his family and friends, who were touched and inspired by his readiness to open his heart. He will be remembered for his quick wit and smile as well as his love of life and motorcycles.

Officer Seuis is survived by his wife Michelle; two daughters, Danielle, 13, and Kristen, 11; his parents, Tom and Betty Seuis; his sister and her husband Lynn and Craig; his brother, his wife and son, Brent, Maggie and Thomas; his parents-in-law, John and Gerda; his sister-in-law, Melinda; and many extended family members and friends.

Funeral services were held July 28 at Cross Roads Church in Castro Valley.

In lieu of flowers, donations benefiting his children may be made to the Seuis Family Trust, 1111 Broadway, Suite 2200, Oakland 94607.
