(July 30, 2004) Reception deception
A wedding reception was enough distraction for a speedy thief who snagged a $5,000 camera July 24 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 11950 Dublin Canyon Road.
The victim, a professional photographer from Hayward, reported to police that she was taking photographs about 6 p.m. during a wedding reception held in the Sunol Room at the hotel.
She left the camera in a large carrying case, which was unlocked. For about 15 minutes, she stepped some 20 yards away from the case to continue taking photographs, police said. When she returned, she opened the case and discovered the camera was missing.
The case has been forwarded to investigations.
Pilfered pickup
An overnight truck break-in July 22 on Canyon Creek Circle resulted in more than $6,600 in property damages and losses.
Police reported that the victim had parked his truck across the street from his residence about 7 p.m. July 22, returning to it about 7 a.m. the following morning.
An unknown suspect had smashed the passenger rear door window with an unknown object, unlocked the door, and rummaged through the vehicle, police said. Along with a laptop computer and accessories, the suspect took a radar detector that had been left on the front floorboard.
A Hummingbird fish finder had also been removed from the truck, but it was found on a neighbor's lawn.
