Police arrest four juveniles in $2 robbery Police arrest four juveniles in $2 robbery (July 09, 2004)

Boys beat 14-year-old for cash

by Teresa C. Brown

Police arrested four Oakland juveniles June 25 for a $2 strong-arm robbery of a 14-year-old Pleasanton youth, who was moderately injured in the alleged attack.

Police reported that the four suspects, who range in age from 13 to 16, were captured at the BART station platform on Owens Drive.

Officers were stopped near Wal-Mart on Rosewood Drive about 7:38 a.m. by the victim, who told them that four male teenagers robbed him. The victim had been walking over the Hacienda Drive overpass from Dublin when the four suspects approached him and demanded that he empty his pockets, police said.

The victim refused and, with the assailants chasing him, he fled toward Wal-Mart. The suspects caught the victim, threw him on the ground and began punching and kicking him, police said.

The suspects took the cash and a cell telephone from the victim's pants pockets. Before fleeing toward the BART station, the suspects also grabbed the victim's shoes and threw them away, police said.

Officers broadcast a description of the suspects and other officers located them on the BART platform waiting for a train.

The victim identified the four juveniles as well as his cell telephone, which was recovered from one of the suspects. The four were booked on a robbery charge and taken to juvenile hall.

The victim's injuries included a lacerated lip and soreness on the back of his head, where he had been kicked and punched, police said.
