James Cormier

James L. Cormier, a 36-year Pleasanton resident, died at ValleyCare Medical Center June 12. He was 87.

Born in Minneapolis on Aug. 10, 1916, he also lived in Hayward for 21 years and in Oakland for 24 years. A U.S. Army veteran, he was in India during World War II. He retired from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he was a mechanical technician, after 30 years of service.

He was a member of SIRS, the Tri-Valley Carvers and was a volunteer with Hope Hospice. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and camping.

He and his wife, Marjorie, were foster parents for 11 years, helping more than 30 children.

His survivors are his wife of 59 years; his son, James M. Cormier of Pleasanton; three daughters, Carol Crosley of Silver City, N.M., Susan Bernardi of Pacifica and Jean Geddings of Livermore; one sister; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

One grandson preceded him in death.

A Mass celebrating his life was held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, and he was buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward.
