(July 09, 2004) Flag vandals
Editor,
An American flag was torn from my medical office sidewalk screen wall at 363 St. Mary St. on May 19, about 8 p.m. It reminded us of those now carrying to Iraq our risk of mass graves here from explosives, anthrax, sarin and beheading.
That 5-foot by 8-foot banner once flew over a White House which now protects us, despite protesters who see only deaths of 1,000 Coalition and 10,000 civilians to stop 1 million murders by Saddam and prevent disasters in the USA.
Doctors for Disaster Preparedness meetings reveal need for this lifesaving preemptive war.
Flag vandals invite mass graves here.

Band benefit fun
Editor,
An amazing thing happened on the way to having a rummage sale weekend - a great group of parents and students worked hard, had fun, got into a grand spirit of camaraderie, and made money for the Amador Valley band to travel to London for the New Year's Day Parade. By Friday evening the donations completely filled the entire music building as well as the moving van generously donated for the event by Karen T. and Cathy Z. from Coldwell Banker Real Estate.
Helpers who had signed up for only part of the event saw the huge response and continued to help, even returning at 6 a.m. and working the entire day Saturday, or working around the busy Fairgrounds and other activities, to make sure of its success. Everyone involved worked in amazing harmony, helping expertly wherever they were needed. Three of our talented band daughters even serenaded the Farmers Market with their own song, advertising the sale.
And the financial results weren't shabby either. The tabulated earnings that day, once I cleaned out my van to find another bag of money (!?) Sunday evening, came to a respectable $4,444.01. I cannot express thanks enough to everyone who helped, despite such a hectic weekend before the end of school. I would also like to acknowledge AV Vending Inc. for supplying soft drinks and water for the workers.
Together we can do so much to make our Amador band a success! If everyone gets involved, the "burden" will be light and we will forge friendships that will make our student's years in band as special for us as it is for them. Let's keep the fires burning!
