Public works plans open house tomorrow
(May 21, 2004) See videocam snake through sewer pipe
The Pleasanton Public Works Department will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, May 22, to provide a rare public glimpse inside its operations at the city's Service Center, 3333 Busch Road.
"Behind the scenes" demonstrations will show how traffic signs are made and roads maintained, with guided tours through water, sewer, street, storm water and vehicle maintenance shops.
Also on view will be a small video camera snaking through a flowing sewer to check for leaks or other problems. Children will have a chance to climb on large tractors and backhoes.
The open house also will provide the public with a chance to meet water, sewer and traffic engineers to discuss issues or problems anyone is having in these areas. The water representative will demonstrate how to read a water meter to check for household leaks or usage.
Rob Wilson, Director of Public Works, said the event, which will include refreshments, is being held in conjunction with National Public Works Week.
