(May 21, 2004) Helen Virginia Rosen
Helen Virginia Rosen, a 32-year Pleasanton resident, died April 24 at ValleyCare Medical Center.
The Hanford, Mo., native was born on July 26, 1922, and during the early 1940s, she settled in Seattle, where she worked for Boeing, becoming part of a female workforce associated with the "Rosie the Riveter" campaign. Following the end of World War II, she moved to San Jose, and in the early 1950s, she began working for Bank of America, and retired from that organization after 33 years of service. In May 1972, she and her husband moved from Oakland to Pleasanton.
She leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Rita Rosen of Danville; a stepdaughter, Jeannie Held of Camdenton, Mo.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 49 years, Carl Thomas Rosen, preceded her in death in August 2003.

Elizabeth 'Betty' Marshall
Former Pleasanton resident Elizabeth "Betty" Marshall, 83, died April 22 in Colusa Regional Medical Center in Colusa. She had been a resident of Stonyford, Calif., for the last three years; prior to that, she lived in Pleasanton for 20 years.
Born in Pittsburg, Calif., on Jan. 4, 1921, she was a legal secretary for patent law and she also worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and St. Michael Catholic Church as well as the Catholic Daughters of America and the Young Ladies Institute, where she was a past president.
She leaves her children and their spouses, Patrick and Frances Marshall of Hollister, Mary and David Young of Pleasanton, Robert Marshall, Jean Pebelier, and Bernice and Vince Fletcher all of Stonyford; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Lucille Ann Marshall in 1987, and by her two husbands, Earl Marshall in 1975 and Anthony Janicek in 2000.
A Mass celebrating her life was held at St. Augustine Catholic Church and burial is at St. Michael's Cemetery.

George D. Callahan
George D. Callahan died April 23 at Kaiser Medical Center in Hayward. He was 59.
Born in West Point, N.Y., on Feb. 12, 1945, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He owned G&G Builders in Pleasanton, where he made his home for 28 years. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lorraine Callahan; two sons, Larry and Gerard Callahan, both of Pleasanton; three brothers, Tim Callahan of Charleston, S.C., James Callahan of Pleasanton and Ron Callahan of Camphill, Penn.; three sisters, Sheila McGoldfrick of Central Valley, N.Y., Sally Block of Allendale, N.J., and Sherry Callahan of Monroe, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass celebrating his life was held at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, and he was buried at St. Augustine's Cemetery.

Irene Burkhalter
Irene Burkhalter, a 50-year Pleasanton resident, died April 24 at Pleasanton Health Care Center. She was 94.
The lifelong Alameda County resident was born in Oakland on Feb. 4, 1910. She was co-owner and manager of a Dublin hair salon for 25 years, and all of her customers will remember her fondly.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Normalee and Stanley DeCoito of Pleasanton; two grandchildren, Stan and Debra DeCoito; two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Private memorial services were held. Donations may be in her memory to Hope Hospice, 6500 Dublin Blvd., Suite 100, Dublin 94568.
Lester A. Reasoner
Texas native Lester A. Reasoner died April 30 at ValleyCare Medical Center. He was 93.
Born in Santa Anna, Texas, on April 8, 1911, he lived in Pleasanton for the last 64 years. For 25 years, he owned and operated Reasoner's Barber Shop located on Main Street.
He was a member of S.I.R.S. and was an avid golfer, gardener, reader and traveler.
He leaves his son Ronnie Reasoner of Livermore; two daughters, Bonnie Uhrinak of Livermore and Nadine Pedron of Groveland, Calif., and a stepdaughter, Sharon Blucker; two sisters; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Two wives preceded him in death, Opal and Vivian.
Funeral services were held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary and he is buried at Pleasanton Memorial Gardens.

Charles Allan Mann
Charles Allan Mann, a Livermore resident, died May 3. He was 79.
Born in South Dakota on Aug. 13, 1924, he served in the military during World War II. He was a partner in Mann Bros. Construction in Livermore, later changing the name to Mann Construction.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Carpenters Union and Las Positas Men's Golf Club.
Among his hobbies, he enjoyed baseball, softball, basketball, bowling and golf, but his passion was fishing. His friends and family will remember him for his generosity, kindness and his enthusiasm for life.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Mann; his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Richard Ring of Pleasanton; a brother; and two grandchildren.
Services were held at Callaghan Mortuary and inurnment is at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Livermore.
Memorial donations may be made to the Guide Dogs for the Blind or to the Great Bay Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Patricia Louise Ellison
Former Pleasanton resident Patricia "Patti" Ellison, 67, died May 2 in Walnut Creek after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born on Oct. 8, 1936, in San Francisco, and was the youngest of two children born to Dr. Raymond and Irene Harris.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1954 and San Francisco State University in 1958, where she received a bachelor of arts degree in education. She was an elementary school teacher.
In 1963, she married Tustin Elias Ellison in San Francisco and the couple moved to Pleasanton in 1972, where they raised their children and where Patti continued to work in education. She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church of Pleasanton.
In 1986, she began a 14-year career with Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, and following retirement, she spent her last several years as a resident and active volunteer of Rossmoor in Walnut Creek.
Among her interests and pursuits, she enjoyed music, gardening, painting, dance, crafts and entertaining family and friends.
Patti was preceded in death by her companion Arnold Swann of Pleasant Hill.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Tustin and Holly of Danville, and Keith and Kimberly of El Dorado Hills; a brother, Ray Harris Jr. of Concord; four grandsons; and other family members and friends.
Services were held at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Pleasant Hill Senior Center, 233 Gregory Lane, Pleasant Hill 94523.
Richard Silva Sr.
Richard "Rich" Silva Sr., a 31-year Pleasanton resident, died May 2 in Half Moon Bay.
An active community member, he was involved in the Pleasanton American Little League, serving as vice president and coach. He brought the first batting cage and "hit-athon" to the P.A.L.L. He also coached the Harvest Park Middle School seventh-grade basketball team to a division title in 1985.
Active in the Church Youth Organization as a coach, he had been an avid Raiders fan since 1960. In 1977, he and his wife, Anita, sold possessions to watch the Raiders play in the Super Bowl XI in Pasadena.
He leaves his wife of 32 years; two sons, Richard Jr. and Heath; a daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Justin Di Fraia; two grandchildren; a daughter-in-law-to-be, Adrienne Reali; three brothers and a sister and their families; his father and stepmother, Albert Sr. and Dolly Silva; and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Cherylann Bragg; his mother, Lillian; and his father-in-law, Anthony Correia.
A Mass celebrating his life was held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Livermore.
Shirley Anne Eiden
Dublin resident Shirley Anne Eiden died May 6. She was 69.
Born in Nebraska on April 4, 1935, she was a member of St. Raymond Catholic Church, the Coffee Lasses and the S.R. Senior Citizen's Club, where she was also a coordinator. She enjoyed bowling on a league and loved to travel. She loved spending time with grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Mark and Amy Eiden of Livermore, David and Kitty Eiden of Oakley, and Kevin and Valerie Eiden of Pleasanton; her mother, Rose Spatz of San Ramon; a sister; and seven grandchildren.
Her husband, Paul Eiden, preceded her in death in 1993.
A funeral service was held at St. Clare's Episcopal Church and inurnment is at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Lois H. Ahlswede
Pleasanton resident Lois H. Ahlswede died at her home May 11. She was 73.
Born in Wisconsin on July 11, 1930, she lived in Racine, Wis., for 40 years, where she raised her family. She had been a Pleasanton resident for the last eight-and-a-half years.
A dental hygienist for 50 years, she graduated from Marquette University. Active at the Pleasanton Senior Center, she enjoyed playing bridge and had many friends in Pleasanton.
She is survived by her son, Eric Ahlswede of San Jose, Costa Rica, a daughter, Ann Ahlswede, and a granddaughter, Kathy Ahlswede, both of Pleasanton.
Her husband Donald Ahlswede preceded her in death in 1980 in Racine.
Private services were held.
Carole Margaret Tierney
Carole Margaret Tierney died at her home on April 28 surrounded by her family. She is survived by two sons, Kent Tierney of Pleasanton and Bryan Tierney of Walnut Creek; a brother, Don Anti of Custer, Wash.; two grandchildren and a nephew. She will be missed by her friends and family. No services were held at her request. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
Marie E. Snider
Pleasanton resident Marie E. Snider died in Hayward on May 12. She was 83.
A native of Revere, Mass., she was born on March 24, 1921. A Pleasanton resident since 1996, she also lived in Livermore from 1984-96.
She worked for several different companies throughout her career, including General Electric, Sylvania and at Lockheed Martin as an electronics assembler.
Among her hobbies, she enjoyed playing bingo.
She leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Paula Saulnier of Livermore; a brother, George Durant of Lynn, Mass.; and one granddaughter, Tracy Saulnier of Livermore.

Rose Giles
Rose Elena Rogers Giles, a lifelong Pleasanton resident, died May 11 at Alameda Care Center in Alameda. She was 88.
Born on Dec. 8, 1915, she was a generous and caring person. She helped her family establish the International Joseph Disease Foundation Inc. The organization helps individuals and their families in the diagnosis, care and treatment for Machado-Joseph Disease.
She leaves her children, Raymond Rodgers of Huntington Beach, Calif., Shirley Trublood of San Jose, Rose Silva and her husband Anthony of Livermore; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Callaghan Mortuary Chapel in Livermore, and interment followed at St. Augustine's Cemetery.
