(May 21, 2004) Knife fight ends with arrest
A fight erupted May 16 in a restaurant parking lot and ended with one man arrested for allegedly slashing another with a knife. Police arrested Pleasanton resident Chris Dillon, 38. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Police said that Dillon and Paul Watson, 42, who have had an ongoing quarrel, met unexpectedly about 3:26 p.m. at Girasole Restaurant's parking lot, 3180 Santa Rita Road. The two men began fighting, and Dillon allegedly pulled out a knife, cut Watson several times, and bit him three times on the face, police said.
Dillon fled the scene on foot, running south toward a nearby grocery store, police said. Police Officer Randy Paulson and his canine partner Robby, as well as two other officers, tracked Dillon, finding him hiding behind the grocery store, where he was arrested without incident, police said.
Police said Watson refused treatment at both the scene and ValleyCare Medical Center. He suffered from moderate injuries, including swelling around his face and neck, and abrasions and contusions on his extremities; Dillon was not injured, police said.
Delivery away, crook to play
While a driver for a Hayward delivery company was making his rounds May 14 at the Stoneridge Shopping Center, a scheming thief broke into the locked delivery truck and stole $13,800 in clothing.
The American Package Express driver, Frank Serrano, told police he parked and locked the 1983 International Bobtail about 11:30 a.m. in front of the upper Sear's store before making deliveries. When he returned to the vehicle about eight minutes later, he found shrink wrap lying on the ground and the vehicle's rear door ajar, police said. Serrano opened the door and discovered 29 boxes of clothing were missing. Police said that master lock securing the back entrance to the vehicle was hanging on the rear door, and it appeared as if the unknown suspect used an object like a hammer to break into the vehicle.
Locked drawers foil burglary
Locked drawers foil burglary
(May 21, 2004) Locked cabinet drawers proved too much for an unknown crook who burglarized a dentist's office at 5720 Stoneridge Mall Road sometime from May 6-10.
Dr. John Ko reported the burglary to police. He said nothing was amiss Friday, May 6, when an employee locked the office about 5:30 p.m. On Monday, May 10, a dental hygienist opened the office about 8 a.m. and discovered papers strewn around the room and filing cabinet drawers in the doctor's credenza were pried open.
Additionally, police said it appeared as if the unknown burglar had unsuccessfully tried to pry open a couple drawers, prying off only the top layer of the drawer faces. While losses were estimated at $30, $500 in damages were noted.
