High school students chosen for sister-city exchanges

Dolores Fox Ciardelli

Nine teens will be representing Pleasanton abroad this summer, taking part in exchanges sponsored by the city's two sister-city organizations.

The Youth Exchange Ambassadors of the Pleasanton-Tulancingo Sister City Association leave for Mexico on July 19, where they stay with host families. They return to Pleasanton Aug. 16 with the Tulancingo youths who want to experience American life.

Ambassadors chosen are Amy Brennen, Lauren Cheney and Natalie Kleffman from Foothill High School; and Elise Viebeck and Brandon Dybdal from Amador Valley.

"We had 10 applicants, it was a grueling process," said Pat Murray, who is in charge of the student exchange. "We would have been more than happy to send all 10. Each student would have made an excellent candidate."

The Pleasanton-Blairgowrie-Fergus Sister City Organization is sending four high school students to Scotland this year: Kelly Trombley, Aleia Van Dyke and Sedef Seren from Foothill; and Sarah Bruzzone from Amador.

"The students will leave Pleasanton the end of June and attend school a few days in Blairgowrie before seeing some of the beautiful countryside around Perthshire," said Cathe Norman, exchange chair. "After a two-week stay in Scotland, they will return to Pleasanton with their Scottish counterparts so that they may then spend two weeks in the Pleasanton area."

This is the third year of the Pleasanton-Blairgowrie student exchange.
