(April 02, 2004) Good Friday Crosswalk
The Catholic Community of Pleasanton is holding its fifth annual Good Friday Crosswalk at 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 9. The walk begins at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 3999 Bernal Ave., and goes to Neal Street, to Main Street/Santa Rita, to Stoneridge Drive, to culminate at St. Elizabeth Seton, 4001 Stoneridge Drive, at about 7:15 p.m.
The 3.5-mile route has the 14 Stations of the Cross, with the first one at St. Augustine. The walkers, who will carry a large cross, will halt at each station, which will be marked by a sign, for 10-15 minutes for a reading. Participants may join the walk at any point.
Each year the crosswalk targets some cause, and this year it is focusing on the teaching that Jesus died for our social and personal sins. For more information, call Gustavo Nystrom at 551-8064.
20 years of flowers
The Livermore Amador Valley Garden Club turns 20 next month. It all began with an ad in a local newspaper in April 1984 asking if there were an interest, which resulted in a meeting with 18 present. Today the club has 268 garden lovers participating in its many programs.
The club's annual plant sale is being held 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, April 3, in the Amador Valley High School parking lot, a great chance to buy at a low price a plant that has been nurtured in a member's garden and repotted. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, the club is having a Garden Fest for members and guests from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, May 23, at the Senior Center.
Bands take honors
The Amador Winter Percussion took first place honors at the Independence High School competition held recently in San Jose while Amador's Winterguard was named runner-up. Also, 13 band members competing at the regional solo and ensemble festival earned a superior command performance rating, the highest rating given. Band members honored were Jessica Burkhart, Tiffany Shih, Shelby Oxenford, Sara Mufich, Alexene Farol, Sijie Mao, Fiona Martin, Angelica Andersson, Robyn Lee, Vince Bruno, Emily Joseph, Jason Farrar and Spencer Sussman.
