Man killed by train
(April 02, 2004) Conductor witnessed suicide
by Teresa C. Brown
A 21-year-old Pleasanton man was killed last Saturday when he was struck by a train near Santa Rita Road by the Jensen housing tract. Based on police investigation, the death was declared a suicide, said Pat Walsh of the Pleasanton Police Department.
Police said the man, Charles Tice, was killed instantly. Officers responded to a call reporting that a person had been hit by a train at 7:47 p.m., Walsh said. The train conductor reported seeing the man lie down on the tracks as the train approached.
His identification and other personal property were found in a "neat pile" on the ground near where he was hit, about 75 yards east of Santa Rita Road, Walsh said, adding that there were no signs of a struggle or altercation. Police from Union Pacific and Pleasanton jointly investigated the death.
Tice was a 2001 graduate of Amador Valley High School.
