(April 02, 2004) Gymasts competing in regionals
Two Pleasanton Middle School students, Tyler Pullen and Chase Kettering, qualified to complete in the Region 1 Gymnastics Championship being hosted this weekend by Arizona State University in Phoenix. The boys qualified based on their performances last weekend in the State Championships in Fremont.
In the Class 6 10-11 age group, Pullen finished 10th in the state out of 57 competing, with an overall score of 53.6. He tied for third on the vault with a 9.4 and placed in the top eight in four other events. Kettering finished 11th in the state with an overall score of 53.375. He came in third on the pommel with a 9.5, and fifth on the parallel bars with a 9.1.
In the 12-plus age group, Hunter Kettering came in ninth place with an overall score of 50.325. He placed third on the pommel with an 8.9.
Swimming at Nationals
Five Pleasanton Seahawks Swimmers traveled to the USA Swimming Nationals held Feb. 10-14 in Orlando, Fla. Jen Narum had a great 15th place finish in the 1500 freestyle that earned her "Rookie of the Meet" honors. Narum barely missed qualifying for the upcoming Olympic Trials in the 800 free. Samantha Heath, Hailey Degolia, Katie Swensen and Jessica Cotton all enjoyed great swims at the meet.
The National Age Group Top 16 Rankings for 2003 published recently recognized many Seahawk swimmers. For the girls: Jen Narum, 1500 free/13 & 14; 15 & 16, Samantha Heath in the 100 y, 100 m, 200 y, 200 m breast & the 400 y IM; Hailey Degolia in the 200 y, 200 breast, 100 y fly, 200 y IM, & 400 y IM; 9 & 10 boys, Andy Wooldridge had eight National Top 16 rankings: 50 y, 50 m, 100 y, 100 m, 200 y, 200 m free, 50 m fly and 200 m IM.
