by Heidi Massie

The Amador boys varsity basketball team closed out their winning season in Sacramento on Tuesday night, with a loss to No. 3 seed Valley High School 79-57 in the NorCal Championship Tournament. A handful of Amador fans made the long drive to support their team and watched as the Dons fought against a taller and stronger team.

Senior Andy Bocian, named EBAL all-league most valuable player, led all scorers with 34 points. Stuart Yoshida scored 7 points while Guilian Guisti scored 8.

For the third year in a row, the Dons finished second in NCS Division II, losing to Hayward 50-70 at the Oakland Arena on Saturday, but they still earned the trip to NorCal. The showdown against powerhouse Hayward ended in a tough loss for the Dons, 70-50. Andy Bocian earned 16 points and snagged 11 rebounds while Stuart Yoshida scored 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Amador began their run for NCS with a win against Tennyson 84-73, followed by a semi-final win over Washington 72-57. The Dons closed out their season with a 21-9 record.

The Lady Dons JV Lacrosse team also shut out California with a 14-0 win. Scoring for Amador was Sarina Madnick with 4 goals, and Julia Brodnick and Carly Rhodes each with 3. Strong defensive play by Melissa Triplett, Jules Narlock and Jessica Starkey contributed to the win.
