Tamara 'Tami' Alberto

Tamara "Tami" Alberto, 40, a native of San Leandro and a three-year resident of Pleasanton, died Feb. 28 in Pacheco. She was an executive secretary with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

She is survived by parents Tony and Patty Alberto of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sons Giordan and Nicholas Tobia of Danville; sister Christina Tramontin of Phoenix; grandmother Amelie Teeslink of Kelseyville, Calif.; and grandfather Ralph C. Davis of Santa Rosa.

Her memorial service is being held at 3 p.m. today, March 12, at Graham Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St.

Ruth Marie Nielsen, 88, who was born in Stanley, N.D., on March 19, 1915, and spent most of her adult life in Pleasanton, died Feb. 27.

Soon after arriving in Pleasanton in 1940, she went to work as a waitress at Dietrich's Coffee Shop on Main Street, where she met her future husband, Melvin (Mel) Nielsen. They were married at the old Nielsen Ranch, near what is today Nielsen Park, on March 19, 1942. Mel and his father Niels Nielsen were farmers, and Ruth became one as well. In 1949, they purchased 30 acres on Mohr Avenue, where they lived for 26 years and raised sugar beets, cucumbers, tomatoes, grain and pumpkins.

In 1963 they began to travel, going all over the United States, to Denmark to visit relatives, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tahiti. Twice they walked the Great Wall of China. In 1975 they retired from farming and moved to the Hacienda Mobile Home Park on Vineyard Avenue. She stayed active to the end of her life, knitting caps for children undergoing chemotherapy and going out to social functions.

She was a 62-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was active in many organizations including Danebod #16, Danish Lodge; Rebekah Lodge #154; Redwood Royal Rovers Travel Club; the VFW Ladies Auxiliary; and the Pleasant Living Trailer Club.

Her husband preceded her in death, in 2001, as did her sister Esther Nielsen who died in 1966 and her brother John Davis who died during World War II. She is survived by brothers Dan Davis of Stanley, N.D., and Sam Davis of Great Falls, Mont.; and 18 nieces and nephews including Alan Nielsen of Pleasanton.

Marion Ede, 84, died Feb. 23 at Kindred Hospital in San Leandro from the effects of a fall last year.

The 46-year Pleasanton resident was a former member of the Golden Acorn Chapter of the Children's Home Society and was a longstanding member of the Daughters of the Nile.

Among her hobbies, she enjoyed watching old movies and dining at local restaurants as well as spending time with her family and friends.

She was survived by her husband of 56 years, George Ede, who died the next day. She leaves her son, Bruce Ede of Pleasanton; a sister-in-law; and three nephews.

George Ede Jr., 89, died Feb. 24 at his home following a brief illness.

The World War II veteran retired from the U.S. Navy in 1955 after 25 years of service. He moved to the Bay Area and settled in Pleasanton 46 years ago and worked at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory for 20 years before enjoying a second retirement in 1977.

He was an expert repairing watches and clocks, and he also enjoyed working on cars and working on home improvement projects, spending many hours in his workshop.

He was a longtime member of the Scottish Rite and the Aahmes Shrine.

He leaves his son Bruce Ede of Pleasanton; a sister-in-law; and three nephews.

His wife of 56 years, Marion Ede, preceded him in death by a day.

Dorothy Frances Silva, 87, a Dublin resident, died Feb. 20. She was born in Oakland on April 25, 1916, and graduated with honors from Washington High School in 1934.

She was active in many community groups, including the Pleasanton VIPs and the Pleasanton Senior Center, and PTA, Brownies, 4-H, Catholic Daughters of America and the parish council at St. Raymond.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Joseph P. Silva; sister Evelyn Lawrence of Castro Valley; and brother Walter Chrysostomo of Lafayette. She is survived by her son Leonard and daughter-in-law Margaret Silva of Pleasanton; daughter Wilma and son-in-law Ed Shannon of Pleasanton; daughter Janet and son-in-law Peter Joule of Liberty Lake, Wash.; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A rosary and Mass were held at St. Raymond Church and burial is at St. Augustine Cemetery. Harold Spencer Lowden

Harold Spencer Lowden, 70, a 25-year resident of Sunol, died March 5 in Walnut Creek. He was born in Yuba City on June 19, 1933.

He served in the U.S. Navy, and was a building inspector for Alameda for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lowden of Sunol; daughters Mya Lowden of Pleasanton and Stacy Stoner of Redwood City; son Gary Lowden of Diamond, Mo.; sister Bonnie Rushing of Escondido; and four grandchildren.
