PPIE overhauls grants
(March 05, 2004) Process now 'friendly' and 'streamlined'
by Teresa C. Brown
The Pleasanton Partnerships in Education (PPIE) Foundation has replaced its mini and impact grant programs with "enrichment grants." The PPIE grants provide funds to students and educators for education-based projects in the Pleasanton Unified School District.
"The (new) grant process is much friendlier for busy educators to use," said Leslie Coonan, PPIE executive director. She explained that the new program has a streamlined application process and has fewer restrictions. The single program is available to both PUSD teachers and district employees. Grant awards may be up to $2,500.
Applicants must be current PUSD employees, and applications for this year must be submitted by 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 21. Student grant deadline is March 8. Applications are available at the PPIE Web site (www.ppie.org) or at the organization's office, 333 Division St. PPIE is a community-based, volunteer organization that strives to improve the education experience through an alliance between the schools, businesses and the community.
