Beer today, jail tomorrow

Snatching two cases of Coors Light beer led to a heavy case of four men assaulting another in a Feb. 27 incident in the 1700 block of Santa Rita Road.

Police arrested Andrew David Amiga, 19, and Michael Anthony Severns, 20, both of San Leandro, and David Alexander Scott, 18, and the trio were booked at the Santa Rita Jail on charges of robbery and assault resulting in great bodily injury. A fourth suspect has been identified, but police withheld his identity pending their investigation.

Police said the 21-year-old victim had bought two cases of beer at a Chevron station about 1:30 a.m. and was putting the cases inside the trunk of a friend's vehicle when four men approached him. The men stole the beer as well as the victim's cell phone before fleeing.

The victim chased the suspects to a nearby park where police said the assault occurred with the suspects slamming "his head into a concrete pillar." The victim was treated at a hospital and released. Car break-in opens door to garage break-in

A thief gained entry to a garage on Canyon Meadow Circle overnight Feb. 25 after breaking into a car and finding the remote control garage door opener.

The victim told police he had parked his 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier in the apartment complex parking lot about 9:20 p.m. The following morning, he discovered that someone had pried open the car's driver-side door, police said. The suspect ransacked the car's glove box and, finding the remote control, opened the victim's garage door. Inside the garage, the suspect moved boxes until finding a $150 computer monitor, which was taken in the theft, police said. During the theft, the suspect also removed the overhead dome lens to turn off the car's interior light. Fast call long enough for theft

A fast call in a Crowne Plaza Hotel room Feb. 24 was long enough for a thief to slip in and snatch $5,000 in electronic equipment left outside the room in a hallway.

The victim told police he carried a laptop computer and digital projector up to his room about 10:05 p.m. He reported that he got off the elevator along with an unknown male. When the victim got to his room, located on the far west side of the hallway, he placed his equipment on the floor outside his room and propped the door open using the door's interior latch, while he brought other items inside the room.

While in his room, the victim said he made a "quick phone call" that lasted a couple of minutes. After the call, the victim said he went back out to the hallway and discovered his property was missing. The victim checked inside his room and then walked back into the hallway, where he saw the unknown male who was in the elevator with him leaving, police said. The victim told police the man did not appear to be in a hurry and he did not know if he was involved in the theft.
