Poetry series continues
(December 05, 2003) Readings Sunday afternoon at Century House
The Century House Poetry Reading series continues from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, with guest and aspiring poets contributing.
Guest poets will be Linda Watanabe McFerrin and Thanasis Maskaleris. McFerrin is a poet, travel writer, novelist and contributor to numerous publications. She also wrote an award-winning novel, "Namako: Sea Cucumber," and a short story collection, "The Hand of Buddha." She teaches and leads workshops in fiction and creative non-fiction.
Thanasis Maskaleris is a poet, author and translator who immigrated to the United States from Greece at the age of 17. He has written poetry, translated contemporary Greek poetry and prose, and taught classics, comparative literature and creative writing at San Francisco State University until his recent retirement.
The afternoon will also feature an Open Mike segment, for aspiring poets to read original or favorite poems of 40 lines or less. The music of fiddler Lowry McFerrin also will be featured. Admission is $3.
Century House is located at 2401 Santa Rita Road. Future Civic Arts poetry readings are scheduled for the first Sundays in February, April and June. The third annual Poetry and Arts Festival will take place Saturday, April 3.
