(March 21, 2003) Maxine Beresford
Maxine Beresford, a six-year Pleasanton resident, died Feb. 16 at San Ramon Regional Medical Center. She was 86.
Born on Sept. 26, 1916, in Tague, W.Va., she served in the U.S. Women's Army Corps as a corporal at Kirtland Field in Alabama during World War II, and was employed in retail sales management for 30 years. Before Pleasanton, she made her home in San Lorenzo for 52 years.
She was a member of the Emblem Club and was a gourmet cook. She loved to entertain and hosted many family celebrations.
She is survived by two daughters, Patty Frahler of Portland, Ore., and Suzanne Barovick of Pleasanton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 53 years, Joseph Beresford, preceded her in death in March 1997.
A private service was held, and she is buried at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine.
Armando J. Orona
Former Pleasanton resident Armando J. Orona died Feb. 18 in Livermore. He was 94.
Born in El Paso, Texas, on June 30, 1908, he lived in Pleasanton for 58 years. Last year he moved to Livermore.
He was a creamery worker for 35 years and he was a member of St. Michael's Parish and St. Anthony's Church in Oakland, where he was very active throughout his life. An avid gardener, he also enjoyed lunches with the teamsters retiree group.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Isabelle Orona; his children, Dory Bothwell and her husband Don of Livermore, Theresa Boisen of Reno, Evelyn Orona Wilk of Pleasanton, and Armando Orona Jr. of Morro Bay; one sister; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church and burial is at St. Joseph Cemetery in San Pablo.
Marilyn P. Anderson
Longtime Bay Area resident Marilyn P. Anderson died Feb. 11 at Stanford Hospital. She was 77.
Born in New Orleans on Jan. 13, 1926, she lived in the Bay Area for 56 years and in Sunnyvale for the last 30 years. Retiring in 1993, she was employed at Stanford Hospital for 20 years.
She was a spiritual person and practiced Reiki healing. She enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, listening to music, attending the theater and watching movies. She especially loved cats, and she was always interested in learning new things and meeting people from all walks of life.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Bob Decker of Pleasanton; a son, Mark Anderson of Alexandria, Va.; and two grandsons, Stephen and Kristopher Decker of Pleasanton.
Memorial services were held at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, to the American Diabetes Association, or to a preferred charity.
Pierre F. Sallaberry
Pierre F. Sallaberry, a seven-year Pleasanton resident, died March 1. He was 83.
Born in Viodos, France, on Oct. 20, 1919, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Prior to Pleasanton, he lived in San Leandro for 25 years and Oakland for eight.
For 40 years, he was a printer for the San Francisco Chronicle. He retired in 1977.
An avid traveler, he was a passionate sports fan and was a San Francisco 49ers season ticket holder since 1954. He was affiliated with the Basque Cultural Center, Ligue Henri IV.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Irene Vahey Sallaberry of Pleasanton; two children and their spouses, Robert and Kate Sallaberry and Christina and Frank Baltazar, all of Pleasanton; one brother and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne-Marie Sallaberry, who died in 1976.
A memorial Mass was celebrated at Notre Dame Des Victoires in San Francisco and burial is at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
