Peggy E. Latimer

Peggy E. Latimer, a 23-year Pleasanton resident, died Oct. 13. She was 66.

A California native born on March 2, 1936, she was raised in Ojai and attended Nordhof High School.

She was a teacher at Stepping Stones for 23 years.

She is survived by her mother, Gladys Lawson of Ojai; four daughters, Sherie Latimer and Brenda Fernandez, both of Citrus Heights, Jamie Harrison of Turlock and Dayna Pruner of Pleasanton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, James Latimer who died in Pleasanton; her father, Edward Lawson; and her brother, Michael Lawson.

Burial services were held at Ivy Lawn in Ventura. Thomas E. Volking

Thomas E. Volking died Oct. 16. He was 58.

Born in Oakland on Jan. 5, 1944, he graduated from Encinal High School in Alameda and served in the U.S. Air Force.

A Dublin resident, he was a Realtor and served as treasurer in the Tri-Valley Rotary in Pleasanton.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Susan Volking of Pleasanton; his mother, Iola C. Volking of Pleasanton; a son, Travis Starr Volking of Dublin; a brother, Frederick Volking Jr. of Pleasanton; a sister, Marleen Frese of Livermore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His father, Frederick Volking Sr., preceded him in death.

Inurnment was held at Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland.

William "Bill" Bernal, an 11-year Pleasanton resident, died Oct. 12. He was 79.

Born in San Francisco on May 20, 1923, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942-45 and the U.S. Merchant Marines until 1950. He was a periodical driver for the San Francisco Chronicle for 33 years and a member of the Teamsters Union Local 921.

He is survived by three sons, David Bernal of Carmel Valley, John Bernal of Castro Valley and William Bernal of Sacramento; three daughters, Linda DeMaria of Carmel Valley, Maureena Turman of Guerneville, and Nancy Sibley of Pleasanton; and seven grandchildren.

Private family services were held. Billy Kilho Ko

Billy Kilho Ko, 73, died Oct. 18. He was a Livermore resident.

Born in Hawaii on Jan. 27, 1929, he served in the U.S. Air Corps in 1946-50. He worked for GTE for almost 25 years and for Tobar Ind. for three years laying out sheet metal.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and being outdoors.

He is survived by wife of 41 years, Marie Ko of Livermore; two daughters, Karla Marie Upton of Brentwood and Katherine Mary Ellis of Pleasanton; a son, Billy Ko Jr. of New Jersey; three sisters; one brother; and five grandchildren.

Services were held at Roselawn Cemetery in Livermore.

Florence Ernestine Madden, a three-year Pleasanton resident, died Oct. 19. She was 75.

Born in San Jose on Jan. 5, 1927, she worked as a new accounts manager for Washington Mutual in Sunnyvale from 1976 to her retirement in 1999.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Madden of Houston and Patrick Madden of Pleasanton; a daughter Terry Vaeth of Pleasanton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary.
