Dr. Gene Bouchard Jr.

Dr. Gene Bouchard Jr., a native of Providence, R.I., and a seven-year resident of Pleasanton, died in his home May 7. He was 49 years old.

He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from MIT, and his master's and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. He belonged to numerous professional engineering associations and held one U.S. patent with several others pending. He worked for Lockheed and for Lockheed-Martin for 17 years and was appointed one of the first Fellows at the company in 1990. And he has the distinction of having been a founding Fellow of Lockheed-Martin's "Skunkworks," a division of the company that produced eminent military aircraft such as the SR-71, F-117 and the F-22.

He leaves his wife of 23 years, Maureen Hart; son Brian Bouchard, 5, of Pleasanton; daughter Elizabeth Bouchard, 8, of Pleasanton; and his father, Dr. Gene Bouchard Sr. of Largo, Fla.

A visitation and service were held May 12 at Graham-Hitch Mortuary in Pleasanton. The burial was held privately.

Antonia (Anna) Prokop, a native of Russia and a Pleasanton resident for 24 years, died May 7 at the age of 94.

She was very active in both the VIP's and at the Pleasanton Senior Center.

She leaves a daughter, Olga Bethune of Pleasanton; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

Prokop was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Prokop, who died in Pleasanton in 1992.

A service was held May 11 at Graham-Hitch Mortuary in Pleasanton. The burial is at Pleasanton Memorial Gardens in Pleasanton. Katherine Chapman

Katherine Chapman, a native of Arizona and nine-year resident of Pleasanton, died May 7 at the age of 85.

A self-employed beautician for 50 years, she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Vineyard Avenue in Pleasanton.

She leaves a daughter, Janice Treuhaft of Pleasanton; six grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Hyrum "Ellsworth" Chapman, preceded her in death in 1992. A visitation and service were held May 11 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The burial is at Los Gatos Cemetery in Los Gatos. Ernest 'Ernie' Carabello

Ernest "Ernie" Carabello, a 35-year resident of Pleasanton, died May 8 from complications of diabetes at the age of 60.

He was a journeyman electrician for 40 years with Local #595, the last years at Bowen Electric Co. of San Leandro. He was also a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Pleasanton.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Jacqueline; son Craig Carabello and daughter-in-law Kym Carabello of Discovery Bay; daughter Dawn Hernandez of Pleasanton; brother Ralph Martin and sister-in-law Debbie Martin of Gibsonia, Penn.; and sister Linda Skolfield and brother-in-law Bill Skolfield of San Diego.

His son Christopher Carabello preceded him in death in 1981.

A vigil was held May 11 at Graham-Hitch Mortuary in Pleasanton. A Mass of Christian Burial followed the next day at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Pleasanton. The burial is at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hayward.

Tom Schweser, a Dublin resident for 37 years, died from complications of a stroke on May 8. He was 72 years old.

He retired from the East Bay Regional Parks District as a construction manager in the late 1980s, served on the LAFC Board for 25 years and also on the board of Valley Memorial Hospital. He was also a former member of the Castlewood Country Club. He enjoyed golf, jazz and using his computer.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Jan Schweser; daughter and son-in-law Laura and Matthew Theodore of Clements, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Tom Rosdahl of Livermore; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow, May 19, at Graham-Hitch Mortuary in Pleasanton.

Beverly Stunkel, a native of Nebraska and 45-year resident of the Tri-Valley, died in her Pleasanton home May 8 from complications of cancer. She was 67 years old.

A long-time singer at the Livermore-Amador Valley Symphony "Pops" in Livermore, she had performed many concerts locally with her longtime friend Bob Stansbury. In addition to her symphony performances, she also sang for many years with the Pleasanton Presbyterian Church and the Christian recording group "Homecoming."

She was a valedictorian at Castlemont High School in Oakland and a graduate of the UC Berkeley and St. Mary's College in Moraga. She taught fifth grade in the Livermore School District for 22 years, retiring in 1995. She was an elder at the Pleasanton Presbyterian Church, a leader in bible study and prayer ministry, and active in many Christian groups including the Order of St. Luke and Cursillo.

She leaves her husband, Jerry Stunkel of Pleasanton; daughters Diane Steinhaus Pettit of Durham, N.C., Kathryn Steinhaus French of Orange, Calif., and Amy Steinhaus Martz of Mission Viejo, Calif.; mother Thelma Reisbig of Pleasanton; sister Penny Beasley; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held May 12 at the Pleasanton Presbyterian Church, and the burial was held privately. Sean Dale O'Donnell

Sean Dale O'Donnell, a native of Pleasanton and 19-year resident, died May 12 from an accident. He was 19 years old.

O'Donnell, who had been a waiter at TGI Friday's and at Buttercup Pantry, greatly enjoyed making people laugh. He also enjoyed hiking, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

He leaves his parents, Dennis O'Donnell of Oakland and Heather O'Donnell of Pleasanton; brother Paul Fagundes of Pleasanton; grandmother Lorraine Hanson of Pleasanton; and great-grandmother Clarice Moore of San Jose.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow, May 19. The service will be held at St. Philip Lutheran Church in Dublin. The burial was held privately.
