Auditions
Harmony Crossroads Chorus

Livermore Valley Opera
The opera company will hold auditions for the principal roles in ÒDon
GiovanniÓ (in Italian with supertitles), ÒI PagliacciÓ (in Italian) and
ÒGianni SchicchiÓ (in English) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June
3, at the Leo Croce School, 5650 Scenic Ave., Livermore. Most principal
roles will be double-cast. Auditions are open, and no appointment is necessary.
Those auditioning should prepare two selections and can audition for any
or all of the operas, and can specify parts. They should be prepared to
sing in the language of the productions they are interested in. Consider
preparing an aria although not mandatory. Bring two copies of a resume,
one photo and music for the pianist. A large number of people are expected.
If needed, callback auditions will be arranged individually for a later

Pot OÕ Gold Chorus

ÒWizard of OzÓ
Pleasanton Playhouse will hold auditions for children ages 6-14 from 7
to 8 p.m., Monday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 9, and children ages 14 and
older at 8 p.m. Callbacks will be on Thursday, May 11. All roles are open
with the role of Dorothy for girls ages 14 to 18. Children should prepare
a song, bring sheet music and wear comfortable clothing for dance. The

Balladeer Alex Beaton and the Piedmont Pipe Band
The Pleasanton-Blairgowrie Sister City Organization presents an evening

Livermore-Amador Symphony
The last concert of the 1999-2000 season will begin at 8 p.m., Saturday,

Perla Batalla

Pleasanton Community Concert Band

Presenting the wonderful voices of the Valley Choral Society performing

Dance
Chinese Cultural Dance Troupe
An internationally acclaimed Taiwanese dance troupe, half of them children,
will perform both ancient and contemporary Chinese dances at 2 p.m., Saturday,
April 29, at the Amador Theater, 1155 Santa Rita Road. Tickets in advance
are $9 for adults, $5 for youths, 12 and under, and may be purchased at

Alameda County Fair Parade Entries
The fair is looking for entries in its annual parade June 24. Ray Pulver,
parade producer, will act as a coach to entrants, offering suggestions
for creating the best float, band or equestrian group possible. The parade
theme is ÒCelebrating the California Dream - Remember the Fun?ÕÓ Applications
are available by contacting the fair at 426-7600.
Alameda County Fair Preview/Fund-raiser Gala
Supporters of ChildrenÕs Hospital Oakland will preview exhibits the evening
before the county fair opens, and enjoy food, champagne and entertainment
from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Thursday, June 22, at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.
Prepaid tickets are $25 and must be purchased before May 10. Tickets at

April Showers Fund-raiser
The Valley Humane Society will hold its annual fund-raiser from 9 a.m.

Bharatanatyam Performance
Pleasanton members of the South Asian community are invited to a Maitri
Fundraiser. Alarmel Valli will perform a dance of the Pandanallur tradition

Cabaret 2000

Harvest Park Silent Auction and Casino Night
Harvest Park Middle SchoolÕs PFA will host a Catch the Wave Silent Auction

used to purchase library materials and science equipment for Harvest Park

Spring Garden Festival and Plant Sale
The fund-raiser sale of hundreds of rare and heirloom varieties of vegetables,
herbs and annual bedding plants will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday,
May 6, at Crow Canyon Gardens, 20 Boardwalk, San Ramon. Other festival
activities include a drawing, childrenÕs activities, adult classes, demonstrations,
gourmet food, organic wine and beer tasting, and guided tours of the garden.

California Genealogical Society Family History Fair

San Francisco Bay Area Woodworking Show
Free workshops, demonstrations, seminars and 100 vendors will be at the

CPR Classes
The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department offers cardiopulmonary resuscitation
classes taught by firefighters. The class teaches basic lifesaving skills,
the Heimlich maneuver and preventive signs of a heart attack, stroke and

The center, which combines home and hospital childbirth, holds an open

Free Screening for Children
The Alisal-Sequoia- San Ramon Masonic Lodge of Pleasanton is offering
a medical screening at no cost to identify children (under 18) with problems
of the bones, joints or muscles, or problems associated with healed burns,
who may be eligible for free treatment at one of the Shriners hospitals.

Girls Basketball Academy
Pleasanton Department of Parks and Community Services is offering a five-week
basketball academy on Fridays, April 28-May 26, for girls in grades three
to eight. Two sessions will be offered each Friday: the first, for grades
three to five, from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m.; the second, for grades six to eight,
from 7:30 to 9:15 p.m. Both sessions take place in the gymnasium at Pleasanton
Middle School, 5001 Case Ave. Each week a different coaching staff member
from a California college or university, as well as Amador Valley High
School varsity coach Elizabeth Stanley, will provide instruction. Players

This year-round team, part of the U.S. swim program, needs school-age

Participants can enjoy spring views, exercise, lunch, meditation and fellowship
